How to open HWP and HWPX files without Hancom Office
Open Korean Hangul word processor files (HWP, HWPX) in your browser on Windows, Mac or Linux, with no install or upload.
HWP is the file format of Hangul, the Korean word processor by Hancom. Schools, government offices and companies in Korea still send many documents as HWP, and most computers outside Korea cannot open them.
HWP vs. HWPX
- HWP is the older binary format. It is hard for other programs to reproduce exactly.
- HWPX is the newer XML-based format, which other tools can read and edit more easily.
Open the file with DocDori
- Open the workspace and choose your HWP or HWPX file. The file stays in your browser and is never uploaded.
- HWP (5.0): read the body text and view tables read-only. You can extract the text as TXT or make a text-only HWPX copy. Saving back to HWP is not available.
- HWPX: edit body text and table cells, add or delete rows and columns in simple tables, and save as HWPX.
Good to know
- Page layout and fonts are not reproduced exactly as in Hancom Office.
- Distribution-only, password-protected or DRM-protected HWP files are not opened.
- If you need to send an edited file back, ask whether HWPX or DOCX is acceptable.
